Nestled in the peaceful surroundings of an old farmhouse, Alviðra serves as an environmental-education center for Landvernd umhverfisverndarsamtök. As the seasons change and our camps in Alviðra draw to a close, we reflect on the incredible impact our volunteers have made during this summer. 

 

The house at the foot of the mountain and surrounded by horse meadows has become a sanctuary for many of our volunteers. They have worked tirelessly to rehabilitate this special place: they tended to the community garden, built new fences, and helped restore the old barn! Each task, no matter how big or small, helped breathe new life into this cherished eco-house.

But their efforts extended beyond Alviðra too. Many days they traveled to Sólheimar Eco-Village, contributing to their sustainability initiatives and supporting the local community. And while the work was physically demanding and very tiring, our volunteers made time to explore the Icelandic landscapes, as they trekked the unforgettable Hot River Hike and immersed themselves in Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes.
