Aurora has arrived, and with full power!!!

The magical Northern Lights are back in Iceland, painting the skies with their mesmerizing dance, and what a show they have been putting up these last weeks .

For our volunteers, this means one thing - Night Photography excursions! Whether or not the lights grace us with an appearance, these excursions offer the perfect opportunity to practice long exposure photography, luminography and improve their skills under the starry skies.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are caused by charged particles from the sun, known as solar wind, colliding with gasses in Earth's atmosphere. When these particles meet oxygen and nitrogen high above our planet, they produce the vibrant, glowing colors we see - ranging from greens and pinks to purples and reds. This natural spectacle is more common near the polar regions due to Earth's  magnetic field, which directs the particles toward the poles. Although beautiful, they remain elusive, making each sighting a rare and cherished experience for those lucky enough to witness them. Though they are breathtaking, they're also unpredictable, so while we can't guarantee a show, the chase itself is always an adventure that stays in our memories!

Join us as we head out into the night, camera in hand, ready to capture the beauty of Iceland’s skies - whether it’s the shimmering lights or the quiet brilliance of the stars.
