New episode of Helpline Earth!
20.11.2023
30 days ago, we sat down with volcanologist Giuseppe Marsala to learn more about the volcanoes in Iceland. Little did we know that just 20 days later, the geologically active area of Reykjanes would awaken for the fourth time in 3 years!
Around midnight on November 10th, the coastal town of Grindavík was evacuated due to heavy earthquakes, indicating volcanic activity. Thousands of people had to flee their homes in the middle of the night. Without realizing its relevance to today’s events, Giuseppe shared insights about the location of Grindavík in this episode.

Tune in to our latest episode and get a firsthand account of the Reykjanes Peninsula, with active volcanism right under its surface. Discover what lava tubes are, why “earthquakes” is a term for the common people, and learn how the village of Vík has already prepared an evacuation plan for when the active volcano Ketla decides to wake up. In this episode, we dive into the world of an Italian volcano and glacier guide and his pure love for Iceland’s nature.
