Inspired by Iceland
Costal Care Sundays
21.09.2025

Every first sunday of the month, if the weather allows it, SEEDS volunteers and members of the community get together to clean the south coast of Iceland and that's what we did this September!

With the support of other four non-governmental organizations, Landvernd, Ungir umhverfissinnar, GAIA Iceland and Blái Herinn, SEEDS Iceland has been cleaning the icelandic coast since 2023. Every first sunday of the month, during the summer time, SEEDS volunteers get together on the south coast of Iceland to help protect coastal environments.

In 2025, SEEDS has already organized several coastal clean-ups, adding up to more than 2000 kg of trash removed from the coast line. The trash collected consists mainly of fishing nets and fishing gear, industrial metal, tires and plastic bottles.

Pollution severely disrupts and destroys coastal and underwater ecossystems. By organising "Coastal Care Sundays" we help protect the homes of marine animals, contribute to well-being of ocean wildlife and the preservation of biodiversity. Besides helping preserving the rich icelandic coast, it's also a fun and refreshing excersice for out volunteers!
